We recommend you to buy an ‘OV Chipkaart’. This is the smart card used in the Dutch public transport system, for busses, metro and trains (buying tickets on the train is not possible at all and individual tickets on the bus are very expensive). The ‘OV Chipkaart’ can be bought at the main train stations, either at the information desk, or directly from the ticket machines.
