Pentecost 2018 International Meeting in the Netherlands

International Chapter 2018 - Pentecost - Burgh Haamstede The Netherlands

19 - 21 May 2018

The Dutch Companions of St. Francis are organising the 2018 International Chapter. They have found very appropriate good accommodation, near the dunes and the sea - on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland (province of Zeeland). There is more than enough space to welcome many of us and follow our usual program, both inside and out. We hope to welcome more than 80 participants who will all have beds in the house, in dormitories on the ground and first floor. The larger building (De Boer), was built at the start of the 20th century and has been renovated several times. It has a spacious modern kitchen with a dining room and a big living room. There are enough showers, toilets and there is plenty of space for the children in the garden.

The surroundings are very attractive. If you have extra time, then spend it visiting Middelburg, Veere, the exposition Neeltje Jans (about the struggle of the Dutch against the water) or the Watersnoodmuseum (about the fatal inundation 1953) in Ouwerkerk.  More details at  http://www.zeelandvakantie.nl/

The new theme ‘Migration - (People on the move)’ for 2018/2019 will be introduced with presentations, workshops, discussions, and walks through the green surroundings. As usual there is ample opportunity for meditation, music and joy, especially in the evenings (veillée on Sunday).

If this is a problem then a lift can be arranged. Please state this on your registration form. Important: In the Netherlands you need a “OV-chipkaart” for all public transport. Information about this can be found at the bigger train stations and  www.ovchipkaart.nl (also in English).

Airports Eindhoven and Rotterdam The Hague airport  (both have good train connections to Middelburg) - and possibly Brussels Zaventem (train to Roosendaal, then change for Middelburg). See above for details from Middelburg to our venue.   Car In general: coming from the South - direction Antwerpen and then Middelburg. An alternative route via Zeeuws Vlaanderen will be less crowded: via Gent to Terneuzen and then the tunnel (toll) under Westerschelde to Middelburg. From the East via Venlo A67 Eindhoven - Breda - Bergen op Zoom, A58 to Middelburg etc. or from Enschede - Arnhem -  A50/A15 - direction Rotterdam -  then follow Zierikzee and via N 59 to Burgh Haamstede. Following your GPS or Google maps is a good idea.

We are looking forward to your registration forms - don’t wait too long booking your trip (ferry, plane or train) On the Pentecost weekend many travel trying to sample a flavour of the upcoming summer.
